Our team welcomes donations from companies and individuals who kindly support and encourage the research activities
of our faculty and students, who aspire to "exploring and revealing the unknowns of the universe for themselves."
We accept the donations via the
Kagoshima University website.
Donations other than those for the Kagoshima University Fund are accepted under
"Donations for purposes other than those supporting the Kagoshima University Fund"
(General Education Organization). For details, please see
the link here.
The universe is vast and full of unknowns. How did it come into being, how has it changed up to now, and how will
it continue to change in the future?
Although it is a matter of enormous breadth and time, it is sure to provide many insights and ideas for imagining the past, present,
and future of our familiar world.
Serious exploration of space can lead to the birth of new ideas and technologies.
This not only satisfies people's intellectual curiosity,
but also sends out into the world talented people with the ability to discover,
analyze, and solve new problems, providing an opportunity to improve society.
Human activities in the world, including the astronomy we are working on, are extremely diverse and have built a rich human society.
We firmly believe that this is possible thanks to the goodwill of the many people who support each activity.
Our laboratory has traditionally relied on tax and public funds (such as operating grants given to universities and
competitive funding such as Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research) to conduct its research activities.
However, in recent years, while the number of university faculty members supporting research fields has been gradually
decreasing and the number of students supervised by each faculty member has been increasing,
operating grants provided to laboratories have been decreasing, and opportunities to obtain competitive funding
have continued to be limited.
It has become increasingly difficult to provide promising students aspiring to study astronomy with an advanced research
environment and opportunities using public funds alone.
Therefore, we have decided to ask for support from the general public.
Your generous donations will be used for the following purposes:
- Upgrading the high-speed computer used in our lab for processing astronomical observation data, which has been used for many years.
- Telescope usage fees required for the lab's decadal-scale astronomical monitoring observations.
- Publication fees for peer-reviewed papers, which are essential for publishing research results.
- Design fees for imaginary images of target celestial bodies used to explain research results.
- Overseas travel expenses (for students and faculty) required for participating in international research
conferences and promoting international collaborative research.
If you would like, we are prepared to offer the following thank-you gifts to donors.
- Laboratory tours by faculty or students (graduate students) (Kandai-Gorimoto Campus)
- Facility tours during faculty business trips (mainly the
National Astronomical Observatory Mizusawa VLBI Observatory VERA Iriki Station and
Nobeyama Radio Observatory)
- On-site lectures and talks on research and general astronomy
*Please contact us at least one month in advance if you would like to participate in any of the above.
